On Thursday the 19th of June, Ann Carroll, an All-Ireland camogie player, came in and told us about camogie in her days. Ann played for Co. Kilkenny. Her mammy was from Manor but Ann grew up in Kilkenny. She was thirteen years old when she played senior camogie. There was no underage back then.
When Ann was nineteen she got a bad knee injury and had to retire from camogie in her late twenties. She won two All-Ireland medals. She won school, college, county and provincial medals also.
Ann brought in two hurleys, one from when she played camogie and a new one. She likes her one better. Ann brought in her scrap book and an old team photograph. Ann is going to donate her scrap books to the Croke Park Museum.
Ann has a very big interest in history and we really enjoyed listening to her talk about her days playing camogie.
On Friday, Donegal Huling captain Conor Gartland from Burt and Brian McIntyre from St. Eunan’s called to the school with the Nicky Rackard trophy that the Donegal Hurling team won this year. Ann joined us for this celebration too.
