Green Schools
We are a Green School. We achieved this by creating an environment to stop idling cars, we care a lot about biodiversity.
We reuse as much as possible, we pick up litter, we care about the wildlife around our school, everyone got a free reusable water bottle.
We make sure to turn off lights, smartboards, taps and other power consuming items when we leave the classroom.
We had a man in the school to talk about bees, we are going to plant raised beds in the future and we are going on a trip to see the nature around us.
In our school we work hard to be a Green School with methods such as:
- not littering;
- asking parents to stop idling their cars to stop gas pollution.
Last year we learnt about biodiversity to understand more about our area, and to find out what’s harmful or good for our land / earth.
We have boxes outside the senior room for batteries as the acid inside them can be harmful for the environment. We have signs for less water usage at the sinks and there are two different bins; one for recycling and one for general waste. We are a Green School.
Every 2 years, we pick a green school topic and keep doing it for the coming years. This year our topic is biodiversity meaning nature. Every student in Magherabeg does what they can to help us get our Green School Flag.
We are currently trying to get raised beds to try grow a school garden. Some of our senior students will prioritise looking after the garden and water all the beautiful flowers grown.
