On the 26th February Tommy and Raymond from Inland Fishers came to visit 5th & 6th Class.
First of all they told us about the water cycle and all of its different stages.
After that we learned about the life cycle of a salmon – eggs, alevin, fry, parr, smolt and adult. Tommy and Raymond did a lovely presentation on the life cycle. They also explained to us about invasive species that destroy life in the rivers. These were Japanese knotweed and giant hogweed.
Tommy and Raymond brought a kick sample from a river for us to try and identify some creatures. We identified freshwater shrimp, the stonefly, cased caddis, the mayfly and bloodworms. We looked at the creatures through a microscope and we could see all the little details of them. They also had a tank with salmon at different stages of the life cycle and a trout.
Overall, we had a great day discovering the different species
