In November, Mr. Meehan came into our classroom and announced to us that we would be having a student council. He explained all the things the student council members would have to do and the positions that there were.
After that, everyone was deciding if they wanted to run for student council or not. Anyone who wanted to be on the council had to make a poster and do a speech on why they should be on student council and they would present it to their class in two weeks. The pressure was on for the candidates as two people were going to be elected in each class!
And so, the day came that we were all waiting for – our speeches. Mr. Meehan went round to Mrs. Mc Daid’s class where they started off with the speeches. After that, Mr. Meehan went to Ms. Mc Laughlin’s class and finally he came to Mrs. Mc Chrystal’s classroom were we gave our speeches.
After a long day of listening to speeches, Mr. Meehan got volunteers to get the voting station ready for the following day. The next day was the vote. Mrs. Mc Daid’s class were brought to the hall with their homework diaries to show their name to cross of the list and they were handed a sheet of paper with the candidate’s names on them. They were allowed to tick the boy they wanted and the girl they wanted for student council and that applied to the rest of the classes also.
Mr. Meehan and Ms. Mc Laughlin counted up all the votes but there was a tie in Mrs. Mc Daid’s and Mrs. Mc Chrystal’s room, so we had to revote for them.
Then the time came for the winners to be announced. We held a school assembly. Mr. Meehan called the sixth class girls up who were Clodagh ,Ciara and Abbie and he announced that Clodagh won.
Then he called the sixth class boys who were Eoghan, Kayden, Andrew, Charlie and Daragh and he announced that Kayden won.
After that he called up Ms. Mc Laughlin’s fifth class girls who were Ellie, Layla, Nadia, Ella, Caoimhe and Paige and Paige got picked.
Then it was time for the fifth class boys who were Max, Fintan and Derek and Fintan. Derek was chosen.
After that it was Ms. Mc Laughlin’s fourth class girls. Alana, Sophia Demi and Mia, and Alana won.
Then the fourth class boys came up. There were Adam, Casey and Nikolozi and Nikolozi was the winner.
Then it was time for Mrs. Mc Daids third class girls who were Ella G and Ella D. Ella G won.
The third class boys were Cayden, Daithi, Nevon, Michael C, Cameron and Dean. Michael C was the winner.
Finally it was time for second class girls. The girls were Molly, Kacie Leigh and Amelia. The winner was Amelia.
The second class boys were Matthew and Micheal Q and the winner was Matthew.
All the winners were given a badge that says Student Council and they will wear them at the meetings.
The student council is Clodagh, Kayden, Paige, Fintan, Alana, Nikolozi, Ella G, Michael C, Amelia, and Matthew.
