5th and 6th Class are taking part in an interesting project called “Heritage Keepers.” We are learning about the history, geography and biodiversity in our area. We explored what species have been recorded in our local area using The National Biodiversity Data Centre website. We were able to generate a report on an 2km square area around Magherabeg School, listing all the plants and animals recorded through national surveys. It gave us a fascinating insight into our local biodiversity.
Here are the animals we discovered: Barn Swallow , Black-Billed Magpie , Chaffinch, Common Blackbird, Common Wood Pigeon, European Robin , Hedge Accentor (Dunnock), House Martin , White Wagtail , Winter Wren , Willow Warbler, Eurasian Badger Lesser Noctule Bat, Soprano Pipistrelle Bat.
We then wrote reports about each of the animals.
