Celebration Day at Drumoghill Football Club
To mark the final day of the Aspire Peaceplus Programme, pupils from all three participating schools gathered at Drumoghill Football Club for a joyful and memorable Celebration Day. The event was filled with a variety of fun activities and once again we were fortunate to enjoy beautiful sunshine, adding to the happiness and festive spirit of the occasion.
In the afternoon, we were delighted to welcome many parents and members of the local community, who joined in the celebration. We were especially honoured by the presence of Minister of State at the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Charlie McConalogue, and several local councillors. Also in attendance were Donegal footballers, Shane O’Donnell and Peadar Mogan, who brought the prestigious Anglo Celt Cup with them.
Speaking on behalf of the three schools, Mr Meehan extended a warm welcome to all and expressed sincere thanks for joining us in celebrating what has been a truly meaningful journey through the Aspire Peaceplus Project. He reflected on a journey marked by friendship, discovery and collaboration and emphasised that the strong relationships forged between students, teachers and schools represent just the beginning of a lasting partnership.
Mr Meehan also extended heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the project, with a special tribute to the pupils – the heart of the Aspire Peaceplus Programme. He praised their openness, enthusiasm and kindness, calling it truly inspiring.
This day marked the conclusion of what has been a hugely successful Aspire Peaceplus Project. By encouraging children to interact, co-operate and understand one another, the Aspire Peaceplus Project is making meaningful strides toward its goal of building a more peaceful and integrated society through education.
