The pupils from 3rd & 4th Class remained in Magherabeg NS and were joined by children from Drumoghill NS and Ray NS. Children from the other classes travelled to different locations, as outlined below, where they were joined by children from our partnering schools.
Junior & Senior Infants – Ray NS
We had a fantastic Fun Day at Drumboe Woods for Peaceplus! The children took part in a treasure hunt through the forest, where they searched for hidden CVC words. They really enjoyed sounding out and spelling the words together. One of the highlights was playing blindfolded Blind Man’s Buff, as we carefully made our way through the trees holding onto the shoulders of the person in front, using face masks as blindfolds. Later, we headed to the hall to play with beanbags, parachutes and hoops, which brought lots of laughs and energy. To top it all off, everyone got to make a delicious s’more using chocolate biscuits and marshmallows toasted over the firepit – a perfect end to a brilliant day!
1st & 2nd Class – Glenveagh National Park
Today we all went to Drumoghill N.S. to meet up with the boys and girls. We all had a wonderful day as we took part in a selection of fun activities.
1). Music
The children listened to a piece of music and tried to recognise the beat to that particular composition. Then each got to work in designing and making their own maracas which they would use to make their very own group composition. They used paper cups, paper, dried pulses, rice and added lots of colour using their markers.
2). Drama with Karen Murphy
It was lovely to see the children’s confidence grow and their willingness to take part in their own little scenarios under the guidance of Karen. We began with some drama games and a warm up in order to help create a very safe and comfortable space. This helped give the children the confidence to take on their new characters at great ease. They had lots of fun playing around with different emotions and taking part in their own little sketch ‘Around the Breakfast Table’.
3). STEAM Activities
The children worked in teams to complete their own unique challenge. Each group was given a box that the children had to open up to discover the challenge they were going to undertake. It was great to hear them discuss their task, how they might approach it, what each person in the group would be in charge of etc. The creativity of their little minds was exceptional. These activities ranged from designing playground apparatus, furniture, solar systems, towers, flowers etc. They were all fully engaged and there was a lovely mix of creativity, concentration and communication among them all.
3rd & 4th Class – Drumoghill NS
Once again, the children took part in a variety of activities alongside their new friends. They enjoyed a very relaxing yoga session, where they learned new poses and stretches, participated in guided meditation, and finished with a calming relaxation period. The children embraced the quiet time – some even drifted off to sleep!
The children also took part in a lively Circus Workshop with our facilitator, Orson Sterritt, who brought great fun and colour to our school. The children tried their hand at spinning plates and juggling, and even made their own juggling ball to take home.
The final activity of the day involved cooperative team games, where the children worked together to complete a series of fun and engaging tasks including building a hula hut!
Another wonderful day was enjoyed by all!
5th & 6th – Magherabeg NS
Feena McAteer from The Arty Fox carried out a workshop on stop motion. The children learned how to use the app Stop Motion Studio to create a short video. It took around 40 photos to make a 12 second clip!
